Being an associate in Cleveland may not net you the big bucks, but it just might have some perks. If you are working at the Jones Day mothership in Cleveland, you are working from home today through Thursday, as the office building is closed for “expected congestion.”

Traffic is certainly a bitch, but other Cleveland firms, such as Thompson Hine, are open for business. As Law.com reports, there may be another reason JD has decided to close up while the Republicans are in town — their well-documented connections to the GOP standard bearer may make their offices the focus of protests:

Jones Day’s Cleveland office, which sits on the edge of the main downtown area, could be a focal point for protests given its connection to Trump and his campaign. Washington, D.C., partner Donald McGahn II is serving as Trump’s lead election lawyer, and the campaign has also hired D.C. partner William McGinley to help the candidate fight for delegates. As of the end of May, the firm has been paid more than $1.3 million in legal fees from the campaign.

A Jones Day partner in Cleveland, Chris Kelly, is playing a significant role too, as one of four co-chairmen of the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee Inc. The nonprofit, which has no political affiliation, is responsible for organizing, hosting and funding the convention in Cleveland.

While I am sure there is all sorts of regular business to attend to, attorneys at the firm can also use the lack of face time requirements to hit the GOP party scene. Chris Christie doing Fireball shots is not to be missed.
