August appears to be “law professor month” here at Lawyerly Lairs. Last week, we took a tour of Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe’s $3.4 million mansion. Today we’re heading down to the Lone Star State to check out the homestead of another legal academic.

This law professor might not be as famous as Professor Tribe, but his house is worth about $1 million more. A Texas tipster talks:

According to public records (courtesy of DCAD.org), this is the home of William V. Dorsaneo, III, the Chief Justice John and Lena Hickman Distinguished Faculty Fellow and Professor of Law at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas.

According to his website bio, Professor Dorsaneo is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Grand Chancellor of the Order of Chancellors, and a member of the Order of the Coif. Professor Dorsaneo was a litigation specialist in Dallas after graduation from law school. He is the principal author of the twenty-six volume TEXAS LITIGATION GUIDE published by Matthew Bender & Company and the co-author of the five-volume TEXAS CIVIL TRIAL GUIDE, as well as three casebooks…. He is Board Certified in civil appellate law and is an active member of the Advisory Committee to the Texas Supreme Court, a member of the American Law Institute, and Chairman of the Texas Supreme Court’s Task Force for Revision of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.

After confirming on DCAD that this house does in fact belong to Professor Dorsaneo, I asked the Texas tipster: how did you come to learn about his home?

I’m an alum of SMU Dedman School of Law but don’t know him personally and never had him as a professor. He’s something of a legend at SMU, where he’s affectionately referred to as “Wild Bill” Dorsaneo. I actually toured the house at an open house and noticed all of the law books in the library. Naturally, that piqued my curiosity and led to the discovery of the identity of the owner, none other than Wild Bill Dorsaneo!

Ah yes, the law books — also the giveaway that Professor Tribe’s house was a law prof’s home.
