Corporate Lawyer The Sole Fatality In Hoboken Train Crash

A sad loss.

fabiolalinked1Commuting is supposed to be a daily nuisance, but yesterday that chore became deadly. During the heart of rush hour, a New Jersey Transit train crashed through the barrier and slammed into the Hoboken Terminal, filled with waiting passengers. Fabiola Bittar de Kroon, 34, was among those in the terminal. She was hit by flying debris and died yesterday.

De Kroon was a corporate attorney from Brazil who also had an MBA from Florida International University. She’d previously held a position as senior legal counsel for SAP in Brazil, but left the job and moved to the United States earlier this year when her husband got an opportunity with an international liquor company. According to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for her former employer said the company was “profoundly saddened” by news of de Kroon’s death.

Reports indicate she was waiting for the train that fateful day to look at apartments closer to Manhattan in search of a better school district for her daughter, Julia. De Kroon had just dropped Julia off at daycare when the accident occurred. Her husband was out of town at the time of the crash, but has headed back to be with their daughter.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
