His salary may have decreased, but he loves his new career.

I did step off the treadmill. I did step off that treadmill to do what I wanted to do, and that’s a head-scratcher for some people in D.C. So one day you come in and you say, ‘What’s Bill doing? Is he at Williams & Connolly?’ ‘No, he’s the defensive coordinator at Catholic.’ That’s how my friends in the neighborhood found out. And they were like, ‘You son of a [gun], you’ve been talking about this for five years, and you did it. You really did it.’

— Bill Bachman, a former partner at Williams & Connolly, offering some wry comments about the way he left his firm. Last year, Bachman left the firm to become the defensive coordinator for Catholic University’s Division III football team, and in May, he was promoted to interim head coach. “[T]o leave Williams & Connolly to come over here and try to win football games would be such a shallow existence,” he said. Instead, Bachman wants to teach his players valuable lessons and make differences in their lives.
