Fresh news about bonuses! And an important tax question...
In addition to inspiring the lame title above, Freshfields has matched Cravath’s bonus structure in a memo sent to associates yesterday.
It’s not a surprising move by any means, but it joins its Magic Circle colleague Clifford Chance (who we wrote about earlier today) in offering market bonuses. But Freshfields offers one small, but potentially significant deviation from its peer.
The firm will pay its bonuses on December 30, a couple weeks after Clifford Chance’s January 13 payout date.

By the way, for all you tax lawyers out there: Is there a potential financial benefit to delaying bonus payouts this year? If Commandante Trump slashes 2017 taxes, is that going to significantly benefit firms that put off the payout until next year? I can imagine there are a lot of moving parts involved in a decision like this.
