Department Of Justice Will Investigate FBI's Pre-Election Activities

If James Comey influenced the election, then he won, and this investigation means nothing.

The people who support and voted for Donald Trump evidently do not care that a foreign power manipulated the 2016 presidential election in favor of Trump. These people also don’t care that the Klu Klux Klan actively supported Donald Trump. I can’t imagine that those people would care that the FBI had a thumb on the scales for Trump.

But, there are appearances to keep. There are still some “moderates” who thinks that the election of Trump is a “process” issue, and not an indictment on the entire American character. Whatever, let’s play our game. From ABC News:

Department of Justice Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today that his office will launch a review of the actions taken by the FBI and DOJ ahead of November’s election.

The inspector general will look at whether FBI Director James Comey’s press conference and notifications to Congress days prior to the election concerning the Hillary Clinton email probe were appropriate under DOJ guidelines.

James Comey’s letter to Congress on October 28th was likely the turning point in the presidential election. Comey inserted himself, and the FBI, into the race, before he even reviewed the emails. Then, just days before the election, Comey released the obvious statement that he had found nothing new. It was, to my mind, an obvious attempt by law enforcement to influence the presidential election.

Maybe it worked. Maybe it didn’t work. Maybe Hillary Clinton should have run more than Katy Perry ads in Michigan? Donald Trump was caught on tape saying that he grabbed women by the pussy, and he still won. Somebody should investigate that.

Either way, this inquiry means nothing. Donald Trump is going to be president. If this investigation finds that the FBI shouldn’t have helped him get there, what will that mean? What will that mean to Jeff Sessions’s Justice Department? Are we going to get a “do over”? Are the people who voted for Donald Trump going to wake up and say, “Wow, I’ve been had, I rescind my support”?

If it didn’t matter to people when the FBI was actively messing with the election, it’s not going to matter to people months from now if an independent investigator confirms that Comey failed to follow DOJ procedures. It’s not going to matter if the independent investigator says Comey was entirely right and is a national hero.

Donald Trump did not win because processes broke down. Donald Trump won because the American people wanted him to win. That’s the reality of this country.
