Ninth Circuit Wins On 'The People's Court'

The Ninth Circuit makes an appearance on SNL.

This past episode on Saturday Night Live was the highest-rated episode of the show in six years, bolstered, undoubtedly, by Melissa McCarthy’s biting portrayal of White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, and a reality TV star president who’s actions could be mistaken for a parody. The episode spawned some excellent moments (including a shout out to Above the Law columnist, Kayleigh McEnany).

But for my money, the best of the night was the show’s take on the Ninth Circuit. Because obviously when Trump tweets, “SEE YOU IN COURT” he means ‘The People’s Court.’ In the bit, Donald Trump, in the hands of host Alec Baldwin, seeks unchecked power and the Ninth Circuit panel of Judge William C. Canby Jr, Judge Michelle T. Friedland, and Judge Richard R. Clifton stand accused of understanding the constitution. You have to think when sitting in law school, imaging their future stellar legal careers, these jurists never imagined being characters on Saturday Night Live would be part of it, but here we are.

Line of the clip goes to Cecily Strong, playing Judge Marilyn Milian, “I just want one day without a CNN alert that scares the hell out of me.” So do we all, so do we all.
