Hastings Steps Up The 'Why You Should Go To Law School' Game

Law school reminds us that lawyers are pretty important.

We spend a lot of time on this website telling people not to go to law school. It’s not that we don’t recognize the importance of training the next generation of attorneys, it’s that we think the system is deeply flawed and the high cost of tuition coupled with the bimodal salary curve financially handcuffs graduates into only seeking work in the one sector of the legal industry that doesn’t need any more lawyers while leaving other sectors in desperate need of quality attorneys.

But that’s a mouthful, so we usually short hand it with a crack about whoring yourself to service the interest on your debt. Which we usually mean figuratively.

So sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the good that lawyers can do. UC Hastings has a new video titled This Is Why We Work For Justice that Dean Faigman released with his Fourth of July message that makes you want to run through a wall to be a lawyer.

“There has never been a more exciting time to be a lawyer.” Well… in that “may you live in interesting times” curse sort of way, sure.
