Marc Kasowitz Delays Groundless Motion He Probably Made Up For Cheap Headlines

Remember when Trump was going to go after James Comey?

After James Comey crashed Columbia Law’s servers when he told the world that he released personal notes of Trump encounters through Professor Daniel Richman, Trump attorney Marc Kasowitz threatened to file a complaint against Comey based on… well, it wasn’t really clear. Professor Steve Vladeck dropped a tweetstorm carefully explaining how ridiculously groundless any legal complaint would be (though holding out the possibility of an ethical issue). Of course, there may be some argument that those documents were not Comey’s to do with as he pleased, but barring classification, it’s hard to see what the big deal would be.

But we were all looking forward to finding out exactly what a guy like Kasowitz, who is decidedly not a criminal lawyer, thought was so illegal about Comey’s actions.

Well, now we’re going to have to wait because it’s been “postponed” indefinitely.

A spokesperson for Kasowitz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The move lowers the temperature of Trump’s effort to discredit the special counsel probe into whether his associates colluded with Russia’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.

Kasowitz still plans to file the complaint against Comey, according to Bloomberg, which cited an unnamed person familiar with the decision. The delay is meant to ease pressure on special counsel Robert Mueller, the source said.

Perhaps. Or it could’ve been pure blowhard-ism designed to kick up headlines and whip a bevy of low-information voters into a frenzy purely to undermine the integrity of the investigation and made with the full understanding that there will never be any follow-up but that the 24-hour news cycle will move on, ensuring that there are no consequences to hurling around empty threats.

You know, one or the other.
