University of Florida Vice President, General Counsel, and University Secretary Jamie Lewis Keith has tendered her resignation, effective June 28th, as speculation and an internal investigation surrounding her role at the school continue. In a statement to ALM, Keith focused on the move as in the best interest of the university:

The only constructive option for the university and for me is for me to leave because it appears that the disruption targeting my role and distracting the university from its priorities won’t stop while I remain at UF, regardless of the outcome of any internal process.

The controversy has been brewing since Gainesville attorney Huntley Johnson filed a lawsuit against the school, its trustees, and Keith for failure to fulfill public records requests. Johnson also wrote a letter to UF’s chief audit executive questioning the legal acumen and ethics of Keith. This led to an internal investigation by the school, which is still ongoing.

Johnson is known in Florida for defending UF athletes charged with disciplinary violations. Given this background, the Gainesville Sun has publicly speculated the underlying dispute involves Johnson’s client, Antonio Callaway. Callaway is a wide receiver for the Gators, and was accused of sexual assault. After a Title IX investigation, he was cleared of any wrongdoing.
