What's Next After Getting Publicly Fired By Your Biglaw Firm?

She's using her fight against Biglaw as motivation for the next step in her career.

No one wants to be fired from Biglaw… especially not in a public way that garners industry headlines. But that’s exactly what happened to Kerrie Campbell. The now former partner at the firm formerly known as Chadbourne & Parke filed a gender discrimination case against her firm. The ensuing litigation has been juicy, but well before the final brief has been filed, Campbell found herself voted out of the partnership.

So… now what?

Campbell decided to hang out her own shingle, launching KCampbell-Law, PLLC this week. And she’s using her fight against Biglaw as motivation for the next step in her career:

“It’s time to stop talking about gender inequality in law firms and start doing something to stop it,” said Campbell. “That’s why I am deeply committed to the legal fight for gender equality and why I started a woman-owned firm.”

Her practice focuses on handling  high-profile reputation, regulation, defamation, commercial speech and unfair trade practice matters for a variety of different clients with something she calls “grit, with grace”:

In 30 years as a lawyer, I have represented public figures, private individuals, iconic brands and companies in the U.S. and abroad in matters involving reputation, regulation, defamation, commercial speech and unfair trade practices,” said Campbell. “It takes grit to effectively represent clients under siege, and it takes grace to efficiently resolve complex issues in the heat of a firestorm of publicity, controversy, emotion and high stakes economic and reputational threats. Grit is in my DNA. Grace comes from learning, experience and humility. My clients benefit from both.

“Grit, with grace” — that’s a better motto than the Biglaw mantra, “tears with bonuses.”

It’s great to see Campbell taking the lessons learned over the course of her very public fight with Biglaw and applying them to the next phase of her career. We wish her all the best in this next chapter.
