Kinney is currently running an exclusive search for an Asia GC role at a well known tech start-up company, based in Shenzhen. This company has received significant recent praise for their new smart phone device in leading medial outlets, such as the New York Times, TIME, Mashable, Wired, Yahoo, and Forbes, among others.
The new hire will be based in Shenzhen (initially and option for other location available after one year) and report directly to the CEO of the company. This is a business side and legal side combo role opportunity. The company is planning a rapid international expansion.
Mandarin strongly preferred but not required.

8+ years corporate / M&A experience from top tier US firm. Experience with tech transactions a plus.

Responsibilities
- Oversee development, implementation and ongoing effectiveness of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of business decisions on all matters.
- Serve as a key strategic legal advisor on all major business transactions and partnerships.
- Assess and strategically manage litigation risks, direct the course of company litigation, including class action law suits, and work with the appropriate stakeholders to formulate strategic defenses, and negotiate and approve settlements of disputes where warranted.
- Selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel.
- Advise on legal aspects of the Company’s financing, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities.
- Partner with Human Resources on employment and regulatory matters on a multi-country level.
- Represent Company and manage relationships with regulatory and licensing authorities.
- Communicate effectively and exercise excellent judgment with cross-functional stakeholders, including outside attorneys, senior management, professional trade associations, law enforcement and government officials and regulators.
