Attorney Skills Accelerator Program at B.U.

Summer classes will be held in Boston and taught by B.U. Law faculty.

ATL-adThe Attorney Skills Accelerator Program (ASAP) at Boston University School of Law will offers summer classes, clinics, and externships to graduate students and qualified J.D. students enrolled in accredited law schools. ASAP could give you the skill set to open doors to new career opportunities and the academic credits to fulfill your law degree requirements.

All of the classes will be held in Boston and taught by BU Law faculty. These 3- to 6-credit courses will be offered over one or both summer sessions: May 22 to July 7, 2017 or July 10 to August 25, 2017.  Enrollment is limited so early registration is encouraged.  You can choose from the following options:

Contract Drafting

Learn the basic principles and skills of drafting and analyzing commercial and transaction agreements, with a focus on recognizing and addressing through contractual provisions key business issues in transactions.

Negotiation

Improve your effectiveness as a negotiator in this highly interactive class, where you will examine negotiation from a variety of perspectives and learn specific negotiation strategies and tactics through role-playing.

Criminal Trial Practice: Prosecutor Clinic

Under faculty supervision, you will bear all the responsibilities of an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting felonies and misdemeanors such as drug distribution, property theft, operating under the influence, breaking and entering, and property damage crimes.

Entrepreneurship & Intellectual Property Clinic
Advise MIT and BU student on how to turn their inventions and innovative ideas into businesses. Under faculty supervision, you may interview potential clients, provide strategic and legal advice, draft organizational documents for corporations and limited liability companies, and provide related direct legal services.

Legislative Policy & Drafting Clinic/Externship

Work directly for a Massachusetts state senator or representative or advocate on behalf of a state executive office, nonprofit organization or advocacy group seeking to advance a bill through the Massachusetts legislature.

Legal Externship

Receive academic credit for working at a government entity, non-profit, for-profit company, or law firm (pro bono projects only). Placements may be paid or unpaid. Through the program, you will gain hands-on legal experience under the supervision of practitioners who are experts in their fields.

Most colleges and universities accept BU transfer credits. However, it is your responsibility to get permission from your school to transfer credits from BU Law. If you are planning to use the credits earned during the BU summer term as transfer credit, you are strongly encouraged to obtain approval from your university prior to enrolling in the BU summer term.

Housing and meal services are available to students registered for summer term. Dormitory-style and apartment-style residences are available on a space-available basis.
