Merger Effects on Summer Associates

I was wondering if anyone knew how a merger between 2 law firms effects a summer associates chances of receiving an offer. If a firm is attempting to merge, is it because they are financially unstable?

A merger might affect summer associate offers, but a merger doesn't mean a firm is financially unstable. Many times a merger is contemplated because two firms want to take advantage of economies of scale and lower costs which can help profitability. Mergers aren't easy to do and sometimes problems can result that may or may not affect all personnel, attorneys and staff alike, but a merger in and of itself isn't a harbinger of doom.
