Wouldn't it be easier to list the firms that are freezing, which the main articles should cover, than to list all the firms that are not?

10:12 am (McDERMOTT WILL & EMERY).

Actually, McDermott is handling salaries a bit different than other Chicago firms, and most associate that I've spoken with about the process agree that it is eminently fair and will reward hard-working, loyal associates. The firm will
* freeze salaries for 1st and 2d years,
* provide normal class year raises to 3d and 4th years, and
* provide discretionary (read, above-market) raises to 5th and 6th years.

Cat is out of the bag in Chicago. Friends in NY and DC have not heard anything about it yet.

Quinn Emanuel did not freeze.

1:06 pm -- This is fucked up. Its the fisrt and second years at Mcdermott that end up doing the grunt work and, more than any 5-6 year associates, 1st and 2nd years should be getting the bonuses. We put in more hours than our senior colleagues! Real good 5th and 6th years are a dime a dozen; its hard to find great 1st years. And when Mcdermott finds them (as it did when it hired me), said first years should be rewarded with kick ass bonuses!

McDERMOTT WILL & EMERY has institute new policy that unfairly rewards senior associates at teh expence of the juniors. Firm is a full of a bunch of cheap, assclowns.

@12:39 - which baker are you speaking of? There are three baker firms included in this list. I am sure your firm is the "true" baker, but please work on your clarity for the sake of the other readers.

Faegre & Benson has not done a freeze, yet. They have offered Voluntary Separation pacakges to many long time staff, though. Budget is tight, but nothing major has happened. I do not detect any associate layoffs, either.

Take GT off the list. They are handling it on an office-by-office basis, but at a minimum each office is freezing salaries. Some are even cutting pay for under-performers or moving to a deferred compensation system based on 2008 salaries.
