Associate Killed in Dramatic Drunken Car Crash
Last night, a dramatic scene unfolded in the parking lot of a movie theater. A suspected drunk driver allegedly took off without his headlights on, hit two police cruisers, terrified several witnesses, and then slammed his car into a tree, killing himself. The driver was a graduate of a top law school and an associate at a law firm.... -

Letter from London: Shearman Lawyer in 'Spit-Roast' Email Shame
It was just another day at Shearman & Sterling. Daniel England, a British trainee lawyer based at the firm's Singapore office, took a break from whatever thrilling piece of work he was doing to email his friends about their forthcoming vacation in Dubai. Being a rules-obsessed lawyer, he included a list of "do’s and don’ts" for the group -- two of whom work in London's financial district, the City -- to follow on the trip. A few days later, the poor fellow found the email plastered across the British press....

Greg Kelly Won't Be Charged with Rape, But Who Is His Accuser? Where Did It All Go Down?
Greg Kelly, the popular television host, has been cleared of his rape allegations -- he won't even face charges. When word of the rape accusation first hit the presses, all we knew was that it had allegedly taken place at a “lower Manhattan law firm.” Well, now we know the name of the accuser, and the name of the "downtown law firm" where the alleged rape occurred.... -

How Alcohol Can Help You Network
There's a list that's been going around the past two days that purports to be A Drink-by-Drink Guide for networking events. Don't get your hopes up. It's not really drinking advice for legal networking events. It's regular advice for legal networking events that happens to use the word "drink" -- instead of "level" or "number" -- to demarcate the five tips in the article. Here's Elie's advice on how to look cool and confident while knocking back a few without getting so sloshed you end up on Above the Law in the morning.... -

Letter from London: 'I Thought Freshfields Was a Supermarket'
“I thought Freshfields [Bruckhaus Deringer] was a supermarket when I got here,” says Kirsty Grant, a fourth-year associate in the London office of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. Happily, Grant -- a fast-learner who got through law school in L.A. while working full-time during the day -- quickly figured out that the Anglo-German law firm, a member of the Magic Circle, wasn’t the place to fulfill her grocery needs. Not that Grant, 33, has oceans of spare cash to splash on her grocery needs. How do her finances as an American abroad compare to those of her Biglaw counterparts back home? -
