Lawline’s Top 20 Women Faculty of 2016

Teresa Messer (Owner, Law Office of Teresa Messer)

Teresa Messer’s background as the daughter of Vietnamese refugees motivated her to pursue a career in immigration law. In her practice, she represents clients before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Consulates and Embassies, and Immigration Court. She has been recognized as a 2017 Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers, and in her spare time, she volunteers her immigration legal services at local and national nonprofit organizations.

Teresa’s introductory course Basics of Affirmative Asylum provides practical training to attorneys representing asylum seekers or who wish to offer pro bono services to asylum seekers through nonprofit organizations. Lawline members particularly appreciate Teresa’s ability to provide “information in a way that was very understandable” and invaluable materials that “included specific references to forms and further information.”
