Innovative employers, legal career mavericks, aspirational law students, and legal education boundary pushers will meet on April 24, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois not just to discuss “alternative legal careers in technology” but to define, shape, and build the legal career paradigm for the modern era.
Here’s what we’ll do:
- What do the new legal jobs look like? We’ll begin with a mural of the modern entrepreneurial legal practitioner: rapid-fire, runway-style profiles of 8 legal professionals who have carved out new and interesting paths in the private practice, corporate/in-house, legal technology startup, and alternative legal service provider sectors of the legal services economy. These trailblazers will share what they’re doing, how they carved their own career paths, and what they’d recommend to law students and other lawyers seeking a professional home beyond the boundaries of the traditional legal career.
- And who is hiring them? But these folks wouldn’t be anywhere without employers willing to hire them. We’ll also bring in the 21st century employers who are hiring lawyers outside of the more traditional roles. We’ll hear who and what these employers look for, what kinds of job they are hiring for, and how to find these jobs.
- And where do they come from? We’ll wrap the event with a deep dive into legal education. It turns out law schools – well, at least some law schools – are staying on top of this changing landscape. We’ll hear what the most innovative law schools are teaching their students and how they’re preparing them not only to escape the grind of traditional legal practice but how to seize the opportunities in this bright, compelling future.
Beyond these sessions, the event will also feature dynamic group mentoring sessions, a wealth of employers looking to find compelling 21st century applicants, access to an online resume bank which will be shared with new legal economy employers and much more.
