39- awesome!
Wow.
What's critical here is DB is saying "we are taking an interest in your professional development in the long term." Now who knows how the program will work, or if it will in practice. But mentoring relationships have always been critical in education, and at least here there is the semblance and attempt to foster that. I think this is a brilliant, refreshing approach. There's also a remarkable level of honesty in the statement. I will definitely apply to be a SA there.
"...illusory, gigabytes of sounds and fury, signifying nothing."
A gem.
Good reads, thanks. I especially appreciated 48's comments. I am attending a Third Tier School with a full scholarship--a number offered me scholarships. I passed on plenty of higher ranked schools.
I am changing careers from another government position and am interested in working in public service. Having little debt after law school is a big deal and will allow me to pursue work I find meaningful. Thanks for your thoughts--I found them especially lucid and salient and the reason I actually visit this site and sift through so many poor comments for gems like that one.

You altered the meaning of the sentence. Those noun phrase subjects are similar, but not identical--and your edit loses some precision and meaning.
-Former English Teacher
What a great read! Thanks so much. Many great moments. I'd totally buy the book.
Teachers have student teaching. Doctors have residency. Why don't we have the same for attorneys?
Well we do in general--it's just that there aren't formalized expectations. There isn't a partnership between the schools and the places where these informal apprenticeships happen over summers. So it's a big grab bag instead of a situation with evaluations and expectations. Perhaps the ABA will push for more formalized apprenticeships in legal education akin to student teaching or medical residencies.
Meanwhile, I myself intentionally chose a school that offers enormous opportunities for clinical work--more opportunities than students to take them--because as a former educator I know the value of a practical education. I think the largely positive reaction to Drinker-Biddle's recent move is indicative of the hunger among students for this kind of education as well.
Interesting to note that NYS has an apprenticeship option to sit on the bar as an alternative to three full years of law school:

...yet I know of no one who has done it, or any firms who would even remotely consider it, regardless of all the complaints about law schools I see so often...
I have a friend who lives very close to her in Manhattan (but I'm reticent to say exactly where--I don't know if it's public). It's a neat area, but you know how everything in NYC is super expensive relative to what you get. The million dollar apartment sounds like a lot if you're outside of NYC--but for where she lives, that's just nice and actually fairly humble. No shame in any of it--rather, I'd call it dignified austerity. I had to have a bunch of expensive dental work done myself due to an accident I had as a child. Having it done in NYC... forgetaboutit.
Now I'm personally a bit critical of her for several First Amendment decisions, but her finances are nothing to criticize.
Or you could buck the system and apprentice in any of 7 states. But who gambles *that* much?
Hello Demand, meet Supply.
Elie, this is not news. This is something you care about as an alum. I'm sure she's a nice person and all. But please.
Elie quotes Iago, which isn't a bad idea in and of itself. However, Elie quotes Iago *as Iago is manipulating Roderigo.* What happens to Roderigo? He gets stabbed in the back by Iago (quite literally, actually, as well as in the usual metaphoric sense). He ends up broke and lonely and dead.
Note if you will that Roderigo is often abbreviated as "Rod." in the text.
What I'm saying, Circle, is you gotta ask yourself if it's really worth it being Elie's Rod.
Can we quote Dick the Butcher net time?
18, if it's about the play, then why did they monkey with their prices like they did, and muscle out others with exclusive franchise contracts.

Nice read!
Be sure to leave him flowers.
Why *did* you become a lawyer?

37 is correct, Elie.
This PE is not the real one. He's been posting as a fake PE a few days.
