Law related layoffs: 800+; Doctor layoffs: 0.
You should have gone to medical school folks!
All this talk of frozen salaries, falling bonuses, and layoffs makes me laugh. As a doctor, I make more money, have more job security, and actually make a contribution to society. And to top it off, I have respect. Why be a lawyer? Go to medical school if it's not too late!
17: dental school is a good choice. So is medical school. Chase your dreams.
PPP is irrelevant in medicine, as profits are relatively stable regardless of the economy. Should have gone to medical school!
14 - I wholeheartedly agree. The whole practice of law is unsustainable due to the large number of law schools and large number of graduates. The ABA should do what the AMA does and limit lawyers - we doctors keep supply low!
yep, too many lawyers, but not too many doctors!
This just emphasizes to me the sad state of the legal profession. Here, in the medical field, you can do great work for the community AND get paid a lot of money. It feels good to be a doctor.
All this layoff news makes me glad I'm a doctor.
Should've been a doctor folks - no layoff news in medicine, more money, and more prestige to boot!
Bwahahahahahahaahh!!! Go med!
Bwahahahahah! Med was the way to go you fools, med was the way to go.
Damn - let's see if these students will be laughing when they don't get job offers.
T3 STUD
THIS, my idiotic law friends, is why you should've opted for medicine! Oh, the greater prestige and pay are worth it on their own, but JOB SECURITY in medicine cannot be beat. I will always make more money than you, and live without fear of layoffs or outsourcing to boot.
Why didn't you take the MCAT instead of the LSAT? Why did you major in history instead of biochemistry? Why don't you contribute to society (and get rich doing it) instead of leeching a laughable salary? 160K makes me laugh...
by the way, the AMA is the ultimate protectionist organization. the aba is full of holes compared to us.
you should've gone to med school you fools. then you'd actually help people, have more prestige, make more money, and have job security. what's not to like - sure the schooling is longer, but then, when you have actual responsibility, that's not a bad thing.

10 - I indeed LOL at you. Doctors make good money way before 40, try 32ish. By that time, most law associates will have either been fired or forced out of the firm.
Think of it this way, a tiny percentage of associates (and a smaller percentage of law students) will ever become partner. However, almost 100% of medical students will get past residency and start making bank.
I also LOL at your idea that the associates who don't make it to partner are doing something satisfying. Most associates either quit law altogether, or end up doing more document review type jobs at other firms. Do you think that's making a difference? At least I get to help people, and become rich doing so.
Don't undercount job security anyway - while 95% of you will either be ousted/fired/burned out in 5+ years, I will continue making bank making a difference to people's lives well until my retirement.
As for dental school (in response to 8), I think it's a great option frankly. However, in my opinion, the prestige hit is so high, that it's not worth it.
19 - again, I heartily LOL at you. The only, ONLY, argument you've made is that you might, MIGHT, make more money than I because you will be a partner.
But the cold hard truth is that chances are, you will NOT become a partner. In fact, there's a much greater chance you will be forced out of the practice of law entirely. At the very most, you'll go to a mid-sized firm and make less than I. How sad.
On the other hand, I have job security that you wish your profession had. I make a salary that, frankly, many mid-level/senior associates would love to make. And I get to help people and earn prestige. BIGLAW cannot compete with that.
As for your totally speculative point about nationalized health-care - that's just it, speculation by an angry, bitter associate who knows his job will soon be outsourced. *sheds tear*

With all these layoffs, it makes me feel glad to be a doctor. Should have gone to medical school my friend!
