I miss the 80's more and more with each passing day. We need a new Reagan to get this country back on track. Big government will literally ruin us all. God help us.

Great find, 43. Unfortunately, the liberals are too blinded by their hatred for Bush to recognize reality.

I'm telling you, it's like we're going back in time. In my day, the golden era of biglaw that was the 1980's, the top firms would only recruit at "T10" schools.

Now we are simply reverting back to the way it used to be -- only the true elite will be able to land biglaw jobs.

Rogue Associate has just the right amount of 80's sleaze to make it in this business.

Belanger's mistake was that he was he focussed on the wrong drug. Marijuana? Please, who wants to get tired and pass out watching a stupid movie. Well, I guess that's what people from this miserable decade like to do.

But if you want to do it up 80's style, the White Candy is where the action is.

37 -- I tell you, two go-go '80's Reganauts like us, we could rule this world!

I graduated with $5K in debt in 1985 from a T10. The 1980s was the best decade to be a lawyer. I'm sorry you all missed out.

Slow down there, Partner Maximus. While you make some valid points regarding law firm economics, there is no need to insult the late President Reagan.

You are talking about someone who lead the country into a golden age of economic prosperity; an age where Wall Street law firms were on top of the world; an age where cocaine was plentiful and always of top quality; an age where M&A deals were so big, and so great in number, that the corporations would buy all the lawyers on the deals $5,000 watches at closing; an age where we would always fly first class when travelling on business; and, finally, an age where only the true elite would land biglaw jobs.

I am, of course, talking about the greatest decade in human history -- the 19-fucking-80's -- sponsored by the great President Reagan.

**Apologies -- that should read "led the country into a golden age of economic prosperity..."

Posted by The 80s Guy in "Judge Stephen G. Larson Resigns Because Judges are Underpaid (But Are They Really?)" Thursday, September 17, 2009 4:52 PM

Larson's bitterness stems from his *just* missing out on the best time to practice law. I am, of course, referring to the golden age of biglaw -- the 19-fucking-80's.

Back then, as young associates, we would have access to (i) 24 hour shoe shiners; (ii) gorgeous women who would wait outside our office building and practically beg us for mind-blowing sex; (iii) unlimited budgets for lunches; (iv) Rolex watches upon the closing of every $10,000,000 deal; and, of course, (v) all the top-quality cocaine we could possibly want.

Had Larson experienced the foregoing, I promise you he would never have left biglaw, and would definitely not be suffering financially right now.

Fuck, this decade is beyond depressing.

The bitterness shared by all current 3Ls stems from them missing out on the best time to practice law. I am, of course, referring to the golden age of biglaw -- the 19-fucking-80's.

We all had trophy wives by 26 and homes in the hamptons by 29.

Fuck, this decade is beyond depressing.

Back in the 80s young associates had everything you mentioned and more. It was truly an amazing time to be a lawyer, as others have noted.

As an 80s guy, I'm not a political dude. But anyone can see that the Obama is destroying the foundation of our once great profession. Young Obama rejected BIGLAW. He had the option but decided to pursue his socialist agenda instead, with the hope that it would lead him to the oval office. This decision guides his every move to this day.

Hopefully one day we will elect someone like Reagan who will usher in a new golden age for BIGLAW. I'm not optimistic but who knows.

Yes! The Bloomberg interface brings me back to better days (the 1980s). Hopefully this is a good omen of things to come...

Gutsy question. There are two kinds of people in this world: sheep and sharks. In my day, BIGLAW lawyers were most definitely sharks; in this pathetic decade, however, most young attorneys are sheepish beyond belief.

Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

This decade continues to depress me beyond belief. During the golden age of biglaw, the glorious 1980s, we young associates did not have to worry about checking a screen (mobile or stationary) every two minutes. As a budding litigator, I did have to work late (past 7:00pm) on occasion. Sometimes just sitting around waiting for paper to be delivered; other times dictating complex briefs into my dictaphone.

But for the love of god, once I was home with my trophy wife, I was free to do as I wish. Indeed, I enjoyed some nice evenings watching laserdic's on my state-of-the-art home theatre.

I feel for you cats, I really do.
