Applicants from these schools often give me ulcers when deciding on employment. I am in a pickle...

Although I support their desire to save money, I am also mindful of the poor academic reuptation of these schools.

In most cases, the poor reputation of these schools is too much to overcome, and we are forced to reject these potential associates....unless he comes from a family of wealth, of course.

As a leader in the legal world, I have always pushed for expenses and entertainment budgets to be very low (except for us partners of course). We are proud to have been at the forefront of this trend for the past 10 years. Additionally, we have a large group of summer associates this year, all who are putting in extensive work on many of the matters left behind by former associates who were given the exciting opportunity to pursue a different career.

All of our 33 Summer Associates have worked 50+ hours the past two weeks, and will for the remainder of the summer. Additionally we will continue our long standing trend of offering the top 2 associates an opportunity to join our "Work-Toward-Associate" program in which they are given an opportunity to work a 6 month unpaid internship, at the end of which, if we their work is of the highest level, they will be offered partial employment.

We are very proud of the programs we have as they not only work to develop ones legal skills, but also character, work-etic, and team building:)

It is not only a responsible move to cut salaries, but rather the firm has a fiduciary obligation to ensure the firms well-being. These salary cuts are in the best interest of the entire firm, associates included. It builds character to live on a smaller budget.

9 ,
I am a partner in a firm and I will gladly offer you all the advice you need:)

I read your first paragraph and your last paragraph. I am unsure what this dissertation was about, and therefore I will ask you kindly to pursue a different career. You have no future in law, you have no future around the legal profession.

I would be glad to refer you to some philanthropies related to your ethnic heritage, and I believe you will find better work within those organizations.

We, as partners, are very aware of the seriousness of these promissory estoppel claims. In fact our partner retreat was extended 3 days in Las Vegas for the sole purpose of exploring this very serious issue. Ultimately, we had no way around deferrals and would have to bite the bullett should someone file a promissory estoppel claim. We would have no defense.

Partner Emeritus is correct. It is a major sign of weakness of the firm to acknowledge these associates have "vacations." In fact, our firm agreed with Cleary and frowns heavily upon "out of office reply" messages and associates who use such are docked two weeks pay.

The only acceptable time to be unavailable is during our firms yearly (optional, but encouraged) reatreat to Israel. This retreat of course is optional, and therefore an out of pocket expense for all but the group organizers.

I see a number of people are very Grumpy and taking it out on me!

It seems obvious your grief is stemming from simple constipation. Just pop 1 1000 IU pill of Vitamin D and a "Men's One-A-Day" every morning and it will clear you right out, usually on a schedule too so you can plan your bathroom trips!

Glad I could help:)
