... without getting political, how much extra tax? An extra $150/month in taxes for someone taking home over $15k/month?
... Does anyone know the threshold under the Obama tax plan where a person earning less than another person will actually take home more income after taxes? Assuming same credits, deductions and etc.
... this has nothing to do with what I suppose to be the intent of the post, but I wonder who paid for this wedding. Last time I checked, most people try to whittle down the invite list, not add a busload of 1st graders.
... I would imagine {read hope} that everyone at Thelen (partners/associates/staff) are shoring up personal exit plans.
135: ... it comes down to Partners doing what they thought was best for themselves and their practices instead of the stability/longevity of Thelen. Sort of like if you went into business with Joe plumber and, after a year or so, decided to take all your big clients and the employees you thought were the best over to Joe Plumber's competitor. Now poor Joe Plumber is trying to pay essentially the same amount of bills with just his small clients.

... 48, an offer letter isn't employment.
... lets talk about selfish partners. Last time I checked, running/operating a business was about making a profit. The more profit you make the more you share with your staff. Now, all of a sudden, partners are selfish because they can not negotiate a place in their new firm for every associate. You that are spewing this nonsense are crazy. I'm sure when you're a partner, you'd gladly give up (for you and your family) a few hundred thousand worth of equity to bring associate x along with you. Then, you'd probably complain about having to pay a higher tax rate than your secretary because you shouldn't have pay more than your share (wait, you've already started complaining about this). Most of the people posting comments of late are hypocritical idiots.
... 14: very funny. However, I doubt they acquired the Firm merely for the financial obligations and office space.

... a quote from Who Moved My Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson -
"One morning they arrived at Cheese Station C and discovered there was no cheese. They were not surprised. Since Sniff and Scurry had noticed the supply of cheese had been getting smaller every day, they were prepared for the inevitable and knew instinctively what to do. They looked at each other, removed the running shoes they had tied together and hung conveniently around their necks, put them on their feet and laced them up. The mice did not overanalyze things. To the mice, the problem and the answer were both simple. The situation at Cheese Station C had changed. So, Sniff and Scurry decided to change. They both looked out into the maze. Then Sniff lifted his nose, sniffed, and nodded to Scurry, who took off running through the maze, while Sniff followed as fast as he could. They were quickly off in search of New Cheese. Later that same day, Hem and Haw arrived at Cheese Station C. They had not been paying attention to the small changes that had been taking place each day, so they took it for granted their Cheese would be there. They were unprepared for what they found. “What! No Cheese?” Hem yelled. He continued yelling, “No Cheese? No Cheese?” as though if he shouted loud enough someone would put it back. “Who moved my Cheese?” he hollered. Finally, he put his hands on his hips, his face turned red, and he screamed at the top of his voice, “It’s not fair!” "
