It’s from a few months ago, but since it aired on New Zealand television, you probably haven’t seen it before. Chief Judge Kozinski went to Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, to speak at a conference, and while he was down there, he spoke with reporter Greg King. They discussed, among other things, what it was like growing up in Romania under a totalitarian regime — and how that affected Kozinski’s attitudes towards government. The Occupy Oakland protesters have complained about “state repression” here in the U.S., but it’s nothing compared to what the citizens of Eastern Bloc countries endured before the end of the Cold War.
