Law Firm Wows With Bonuses That Crush The Market

Impressive bonuses!

Hueston Hennigan announced bonuses and they’ve demolished the market standard set by Cravath last month.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise — Hueston Hennigan has a reputation for being generous with their bonuses. Today, the firm announced bonuses, and sources say they range from 30 to 50 percent of an associate’s base salary, based on class year, hours, and good standing. These are indeed generous bonuses, but expected for Hueston Hennigan associates. But this year,  they got even more good bonus news —  a special  “good year” bonus, which translates to an extra 10 percent of their bonus for all bonus-eligible associates. (UPDATE: As tipsters at the firm have noted, this summer Hueston Hennigan declined to give associates a mid-year bonus as many others in the market did, as so the “good year” bonuses are seen by some as a make up for that.) And this is in addition to the firm’s contributions to associate 401(k) accounts, which start at around 3 percent of the associate’s gross pay and do not require any contribution by the associate.

Sources at the firm told us that some junior associates received bonuses at 3x the market rate. And every associate’s bonuses exceeded the market rate. Plus the firm announced bonuses and retirement contributions for staff too. Talk about a happy holiday indeed.
