RBG's Words Are A Literal Work Of Art

A true legal fan is going to snap this up.

Justice Ginsburg’s transformation into a pop culture icon was certainly a gradual process for years, but it feels like it kicked into warp speed over the last couple years. She’s been featured in books, earned a badass nickname, landed in an acclaimed documentary, and a feature-length historical drama. Back in 2015, the noted fan could only be excited to be the subject of an opera. In retrospect, that was probably the inflection point where she began rocketing toward superstardom.

Now she can add, “work of art” to her list of accomplishments. As Law.com reports:

Geoffrey Stein is showing the 30 x 30 inch-collage, R.B.G. 2019, at Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York City. Ginsburg’s 1996 opinion in United States v. Virginia, which struck down the male-only admissions policy at the Virginia Military Institute, is the material for the collage. Stein worked with acrylic and pencil on canvas.

The work, which shows Ginsburg’s headshot superimposed over a collage of the majority opinion doesn’t have an official price — so if you’re in the market, you’re going to have to lob an inquiry to the gallery — but one imagines some Biglaw firm would get in the running for a work like this to adorn the halls. It’s hard enough to find engaging art for a top-flight law firm, let alone art that also strikes a legal theme.

Plus, with a prominent woman of the law staring at attorneys every day, it might just make them take a second and wonder if they’re doing all they can to ensure the firm’s female population isn’t confined to the walls.
