New Cloud Docketing System Aims To Be Greater Than Sum Of Its Parts

Aderant combines CompuLaw and American LegalNet into Milana.

Courthouse facadeWhen Aderant acquired American LegalNet earlier this year, you knew they were up to something. In the ten months since, Aderant worked to develop a cloud-based docketing system that takes Aderant’s existing CompuLaw system and melds it with ALN’s docketing technology. The result is Milana — derived from Hindi for “mix” or “bring together” — which Aderant sees as the future of docketing.

“Milana represents the future of docketing, and the future is here,” remarked Chris Cartrett, President and CEO of Aderant. “Law firms must guard against reputational and malpractice risk and docketing can be a major source of both. To better address the needs of our clients and the industry, we are bringing together CompuLaw’s market-leading court rules and the cloud benefits firms have come to expect with ALN into a new product that far exceeds anything available for firms today. Milana is the new standard in docketing, built on the rules the industry trusts with a defined path of innovation ahead.”

Combining the two products provides Milana users with rule sets for more than 2,000 jurisdictions across all 50 states, including court holidays built into the software.

Some other highlights of the new product include:

  • Trusted, market-leading CompuLaw court rules with matter-level exclusions
  • Auto Docket Pro (ECF Reconciliation & Distribution)
  • Advanced DMS integration (iManage & NetDocuments) and Forms Workflow Integration
  • Docket Direct (Court Data Feeds)
  • Variety of settings, wizards, workflows and self-service tools to enhance user experience

And, as you might expect from a technology launch in 2022… it’s heavy on the analytics. From LawSites:

“We rolled out a report that really allows you to get granular with the data,” [Director of Account Management David] Flynn said. “So let’s say I’m trying to figure out how many cases we have we had in a certain jurisdiction in front of a certain judge, who were the attorneys involved, and the outcomes. In just a couple of clicks, I can run this report filter and then have that information or even send that information to some other project that we’re working on.”

Aderant will be demonstrating Milana at the National Docketing Association Annual Conference on October 16-18 at Caesars Palace.

I did not know there was a National Docketing Association. Man, I’ll bet that conference is organized as all get out.
