Like it or not, if you’re a lawyer who’s been working at a Biglaw firm for any amount of time, you’ve probably been tethered to your cellphone for an unhealthy portion of your existence. After all, you need to be able to CHECK YOU EMAILS OFTEN<\/a>, which usually requires an unhealthy relationship with your mobile device on a 24\/7\/365 basis.<\/p>\n

A Biglaw associate’s cellphone is a ball and chain, but one firm has responded to this sad fact by offering up a brand new bring your own device program that’s incredibly up to date with the times. Which firm will be providing its associates with funds for the latest and greatest mobile technology that money can buy? A bit of background is needed before we can answer that question.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Apple executives announced the launch of the iPhone X, a cellular stunner with features like a huge screen, an OLED display, a Face ID security system, and wireless charging capabilities. The iPhone X goes on sale on October 27, and it ships on November 3. Its starting price is $999.<\/p>\n

On the same day the world was introduced to the iPhone X, Paul Weiss announced the launch of its new mobile device reimbursement program via email. Here are the relevant details from firm chair Brad Karp (the full email is available on the next page if you’d like to learn more about the program):<\/p>\n

[E]ffective immediately, we are updating our mobile device reimbursement (BYOD) policy. Our new policy allows up to a $1,000 reimbursement every 18 months, which can be used to purchase any mobile phone or tablet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

With just a $1 difference between PW’s maximum mobile phone reimbursement and the starting price of the iPhone X, this is the quickest that we’ve ever seen a Biglaw firm respond to a major technological advance. You can expect to see hundreds of Paul Weiss associates with an iPhone X in hand later this fall. Congratulations! Above the Law will look great on those True Tone displays.<\/p>\n
