After a whirlwind of activity (and just barely making it into Chicago before the bad weather hit), one of my favorite legal technology conferences is now behind us.<\/p>\n<p>As my fellow Above the Law columnist, Bob Ambrogi, recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2017\/03\/aba-techshow-post-mortem-not-your-granddaddys-legal-tech-conference\/\">noted<\/a>, this year&#8217;s conference was quite a departure from prior TECHSHOWs. The speaker roster was radically different from years past, as was the Keynote &#8212; which consisted of a panel discussion between the founders of Avvo, Rocket Lawyer, and Legal Zoom &#8212;\u00a0instead of what we&#8217;d come to expect: a presentation from\u00a0a single leading technology visionary or legal technology futurist.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s TECHSHOW also broke with precedent by including a legal tech startup showdown between 12 different companies: <a href=\"http:\/\/clarilegal.com\/\">ClariLegal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/unicourt.com\/\">UniCourt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalclick.com\/\">LegalClick<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ebrevia.com\/\">eBrevia<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/timebyping.com\/\">Ping<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joinpaladin.com\/\">Paladin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trustbooks.com\/\">TrustBooks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aggregatelaw.com\/\">Aggregate Law<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtbuddy.com\/\">Court Buddy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/doxly.com\/\">Doxly<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/justlegal.com\/\">JustLegal<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altlegal.com\/\">Alt Legal<\/a>. The competition occurred on Wednesday night, after which the audience voted on their favorites. The winner was Ping (who won free advertising here on Above the Law), followed by Doxly and UniCourt. After the event, the startups set up shop in the back corner of the Expo Hall where &#8220;startup alley&#8221; occupied a small footprint of the Hall and allowed each company to showcase their wares to attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, not everything changed this year. Among other things,\u00a0we discussed the benefits of using law practice management software and MyCase&#8217;s newly announced enhanced mobile app.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I wasn&#8217;t the only one interviewed for a podcast.
