But what about international law students? Since most legal technology education, research, and innovation tends to happen here, students studying law in foreign countries may be at a disadvantage. One elite law school is trying to make sure its students don&#8217;t get left behind.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s Peking University Law School has partnered with Gridsum, a cloud-based analytics platform, to create a research center that will focus on how artificial intelligence could be used in China&#8217;s legal system. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/legaltechnews\/sites\/legaltechnews\/2018\/01\/02\/ai-goes-to-law-school-in-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legaltech News<\/a> has more information on the big news:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gridsum will provide the technical and research backbone to the center as part of the partnership, drawing in part from AI technology developed for the company\u2019s \u201cFaxin Wei Su\u201d tool, a litigation service operating on Chinese communication platform WeChat\u2019s micro application platform.<\/p>\n<p>The new center, the Peking University Legal AI Lab and Research Institute, or the \u201cLegal AI Lab,\u201d launched on Friday with a ceremony hosted by Jingyi Ye, deputy party committee secretary of Peking University. Also in attendance were Shouwen Zhang, dean of Peking University Law School and director of the Legal AI Lab; Xiaolei Yang, vice president of Peking University Law School and executive director of the Legal AI Lab; and Guosheng Qi, CEO of Gridsum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a statement, Qi said that he and his colleagues at Gridsum were &#8220;excited to be at the forefront of China\u2019s legal AI development and to have the opportunity to work in close cooperation with globally renowned legal academic institutions and individuals.&#8221; He concluded his statement by noting that &#8220;[t]he combination of Peking University\u2019s highly experienced legal community and [Gridsum&#8217;s] cutting-edge AI and big data technology will directly benefit the development and application of AI across China\u2019s judicial system as it migrates towards a &#8216;Smart Court&#8217; initiative.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all of the students at Peking Law, because thanks to the school&#8217;s new Legal AI Lab, they&#8217;ll be caught up with the latest and greatest that technology has to offer for the practice of law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/legaltechnews\/sites\/legaltechnews\/2018\/01\/02\/ai-goes-to-law-school-in-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI Goes To Law School\u2014In China<\/a> [Legaltech News]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-441281\" src=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Staci-Zaretsky.jpg\" alt=\"Staci Zaretsky\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><em><a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/author\/staci-zaretsky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Staci Zaretsky<\/a> has been an editor at Above the Law since 2011.
