The dating conglomerate is in hot water with Google \u2014 the world&#8217;s most famous search engine wants to cut ties with the app in a big way.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Google has counter-sued Match seeking monetary damages and a judgement that would let it kick Tinder and the group&#8217;s other dating apps out of the Play Store,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-12\/google-countersues-match-group-in-fight-over-play-store-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ylk=\"elm:affiliate_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"18\" data-v9y=\"1\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a>\u00a0has reported. Earlier this year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/match-group-sues-google-225719753.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"19\" data-v9y=\"1\">Match sued Google<\/a>\u00a0alleging antitrust violations over a decision requiring all Android developers to process &#8220;digital goods and services&#8221; payments through the Play Store billing system.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;re thinking, &#8220;So what, Tinder is for those weird 20-somethings trying to bump uglies with no commitment. I use a <em>classier<\/em> dating app,&#8221; two things. First, believe it or not, Tinder is one of the ways people meet like-minded souls for friendship, especially in the age of COVID. Second, Match, Meetic, OkCupid, Hinge, Pairs, PlentyOfFish, and OurTime are also implicated in this lawsuit. For <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=us.personals&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\">Lex<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.grindrapp.android&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\">Grindr<\/a>&#8216;ers, you appear to be safe for now. <a href=\"https:\/\/join.theleague.com\/?gclid=CjwKCAjw_b6WBhAQEiwAp4HyIHR-_WhnPWgsK7ehrisQI1sn-mMXgLZ22ps3JlU3BFNFWP6SvvQQ8xoCyy0QAvD_BwE\">The Leaguers<\/a>&#8230; you aren&#8217;t nearly as cool as you think you are.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Match group said that Google&#8217;s Play Store policies violate federal and state laws. &#8220;Google doesn\u2019t want anyone else to sue them so their counterclaims are designed as a warning shot,&#8221; Match told\u00a0<em>Bloomberg<\/em>\u00a0in a statement. \u201cWe are confident that our suit, alongside other developers, the US Department of Justice and 37 state attorneys general making similar claims, will be resolved in our favor early next year.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While I don&#8217;t know the exact value a suit like this would involve, I do know that price tags associated with Match and Tinder <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2021\/12\/01\/match-tinder-441-million-dollar-settlement-valuation\/\">carry hundreds of millions of dollars<\/a>. Antitrust appears to be back in season. You should expect to see more news of big names suing big names.
