{"id":27805,"date":"2023-06-07T14:34:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T18:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/?p=971284"},"modified":"2023-06-07T14:34:16","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T18:34:16","slug":"free-speech-hypocrisy-hot-bench-troubles-and-chatgpt-legal-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/legal-innovation-center\/2023\/06\/07\/free-speech-hypocrisy-hot-bench-troubles-and-chatgpt-legal-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Speech Hypocrisy, Hot Bench Troubles, And ChatGPT Legal Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-661517\" src=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/05\/Thinking-Like-A-Lawyer-Final-620x620-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Thinking-Like-A-Lawyer-Final-620\u00d7620\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>After a year of sword rattling that higher education is &#8220;hostile to free speech&#8221; because students don&#8217;t appropriately sit quiet and absorb what speakers on stage are laying down, the media grandstanding came to a halt &#8212; and in the case of the NY Post, went into reverse &#8212; amid calls to defund CUNY Law School over a speaker. Apparently it&#8217;s only a &#8220;free speech crisis&#8221; in one direction. Meanwhile, the Second Circuit seems <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2023\/05\/the-woman-who-called-the-police-on-a-black-birdwatcher-for-breathings-case-is-going-about-as-well-as-youd-expect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highly skeptical of Central Park Karen&#8217;s claim<\/a> that her former employer defamed her for citing its zero tolerance for racism in firing her. And by &#8220;highly skeptical&#8221; we mean the panel appears to have granted oral argument simply to dunk on her lawyer. Speaking of lawyers getting dunked on, the hapless attorneys who filed a response filled <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2023\/05\/chatgpt-bad-lawyering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with fake caselaw they got off of ChatGPT<\/a> are in serious trouble.
