Some Am Law 200 firms are taking it slow and steady when it comes to implementing AI, starting with email drafting while planning to one day incorporate AI into legal work. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to go from a flip phone to an iPhone 14,\u201d Kate Orr, global head of practice innovation at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, tells <\/span>The American Lawyer<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For <\/span>Bloomberg Law<\/span><\/a>, New York State Bar Association President Richard Lewis explains the organization\u2019s AI task force\u2019s goals for the future of AI in legal work. \u201cLeveraging the power of AI could be a game-changer\u2014a reality that cuts both ways,\u201d he writes. \u201cNavigating this world will be challenging, but if we proceed responsibly and with our eyes wide open, we could change the legal profession for the better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Congress is unlikely to pass new AI laws any time soon, Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) tells <\/span>Politico<\/span><\/a>, suggesting that federal agencies should first be better equipped to address AI-related problems using current laws. Young is a key member of a bipartisan group assembled by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to address threats posed by AI.<\/span><\/p>\n

The legal battles determining what individuals can do when AI presents false information about them are beginning to heat up, according to the <\/span>New York Times<\/span><\/a>. \u201cIt is always frustrating when you realize that the law does not keep up with technology,\u201d Anne T. Donnelly, the district attorney of Nassau County, NY, tells the Times. \u201cI don\u2019t like meeting victims and saying, \u2018We can\u2019t help you.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

AI-related intellectual property battles are emerging across the pond as well, the <\/span>BBC<\/span><\/a> reports, with several British artists and illustrators filing a new suit against DeviantArt and Midjourney parent company Stability AI, adding to \u201ca growing stack of lawsuits against AI firms, which are testing issues of copyright.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
