Florida Bar Tries To Teach People How To Do 'Adulting'

Florida tries to help kids grow up. They shouldn't try.

biglaw dunceIf you went to www.justadulting.com, what would you expect to see? An image gallery of Millennials trying (and failing) to do basic tasks like grocery shopping? Maybe a series of short explanations of just how hard it is to leave your parents’ house? What you almost certainly do not expect is the Florida State Bar offering laughably bad quiz questions aimed at trying to teach the young’uns how to grow the hell up.

Unfortunately for all of us, the last option is true. The site (which sounds just as awkward using the term ‘adulting’ as your grandmother trying to wrap her head around planking) urges readers to put on their “big people pants” and learn all about the difficult future that awaits them in the real world. Except the questions are utterly terrible. Featuring memes, there are two choices for each question. One is the obviously correct one, and the other… is supposed to be funny? I guess? Don’t believe me? Let’s take a quick look at some of the offerings:

Question one: how do you prepare for an interview?

Option one is: Review and update my résumé. Option two is: Google search résumé, copy and paste.

Insultingly basic, right? But don’t worry, it does not get better.

Take this gem: How do you achieve a good credit rating?

Option one: Know your payment due date and pay on time. Option two: Put in a good word for your buddy with the ladies. Hmmm, let me think, this is a tough one. Oh wait, no it isn’t.

This one is fun: What happens if you drive after you’ve been drinking?

This: Sometimes you wind up on the floor trying to figure out where you put your pants. Or: Driving under the influence is a serious crime and can be classified as a felony.

These rather inane questions are supplemented with a navigation bar which provides theoretically useful information for those on the cusp of adulthood, if you’ve been the repeated victim of blunt force trauma.

This is exactly what happens when 52-year-olds are super determined to make something go viral with one of those picture things, what do you call them? Oh, memes. But I suppose they get points for trying.
