Law Dean Dark Horse For Hillary's Running Mate

Could this be the Dem nominee for VP?

The GOP tire fire known as the Republican National Convention is well under way, with all the fascism, coded racism, and plagiarism one could hope for. Imagining what clownish antic will take center stage is best left to The Onion writers, so instead, we’ll focus our attention on the Democratic Convention. The biggest question mark left is who will be Hillary Clinton’s running mate.

For months now, we’ve heard the same names bandied about: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Cory Booker, Labor Secretary Tom Perez, HUD Secretary Julian Castro… but what if there were someone new in the list — someone outside of the mess of Secretaries and Senators currently on the list?

Enter the dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts. Admiral James G. Stavridis (Ret.), former NATO supreme allied commander, is now being vetted for Hillary’s number 2, according to reports that surfaced last week. The Fletcher School isn’t a traditional law school, the graduate school focuses on international diplomacy, and while it doesn’t grant JDs, it does offer a LL.M. program.

While Stavridis’s foreign policy bona fides are excellent, he is still considered a dark-horse candidate. Picking up extra international relations credentials may not be what the former Secretary of State thinks is essential, and Stavridis doesn’t seem poised to help Clinton pick up any swing states or vital demographics.
