Career Center Survey Results: Top Partners to Work For - New York (Part 2)

Yesterday we introduced the first group of New York partners selected by our readers as the best partners to work for. Today we continue our presentation of the top New York partners.

The eight partners we present today practice at some of the country’s most well-known and well-regarded law firms: Cleary Gottlieb, Dorsey & Whitney, Fish & Richardson, Jones Day, Milbank Tweed, Schulte Roth & Zabel, Simpson Thacher, and WilmerHale.

Let’s learn who they are….

Sandra Edelman. Ms. Edelman is an intellectual property litigation partner and head of Dorsey & Whitney’s Trademark, Copyright, Advertising and Brand Management group.  She received the highest ratings in all survey categories, and is noted for being “knowledgeable, caring and approachable.”

Paul Engelmayer. Associates want to work for Mr. Engelmayer, a WilmerHale litigation partner, because he is “[a]bsolutely brilliant and loves mentoring associates,” and “easily one of the nicest and most humble people.” But note that he might not be in the private sector for much longer — he might be joining the federal bench.

John Ericson. As a Simpson Thacher corporate partner, Mr. Ericson “is incredibly hard-working and consistently brilliant”; “[h]is fellow partners, particularly the senior partners, rave about him, and his reputation is legendary among associates.” But what makes him the best is that he “always makes time to explain concepts to clients and associates alike,” “drives his teams very hard and keeps the bar for work-product incredibly high, often just beyond where his associates think they’re able to reach . . . until they reach it,” and “even after excruciating weekend work-a-thons, [he] is still strikingly pleasant and always meticulous.”

David Francescani. Mr. Francescani, an intellectual property partner at Fish & Richardson, “[s]ets a positive tone for the whole office,” and is known for “rip[ping] the head off of a witness on cross one day, and the next day schedul[ing] a social hour in our lobby (catered, usually with beer) for the whole office so that they can take a break.”

Willis Goldsmith.  Mr. Goldsmith, a labor & employment litigation partner at Jones Day, is described by an associate who worked at three big firms as “the best partner I ever worked for.”

Jonathan Green. Mr. Green is a corporate partner and co-chair of Milbank’s Global Project Finance Group, and he sets the bar for the firm in most survey categories.

Dan Kusnetz. Mr. Kusnetz, a Schulte Roth tax partner, not only “goes above and beyond to make sure associates get great experience and develop as lawyers,” but “[h]e’s also a funny, fun-loving guy who takes associates to the New York Brewfest on Governor’s Island, invites associates to personal training sessions with trainers at his gym, [and] is very generous with the firm’s sports tickets.”

Jorge Juantorena. Mr. Juantorena is a Cleary Gottlieb corporate partner who excels in almost all survey categories.
