The Number of New York Bar Exam Takers Drops

The New York Bar Exam was just held last month, and less people sat for it than at any time in the last 9 years.

Only 10,700 law graduates took the exam, the lowest number for a July bar since 2006.

Last year, 11,195 grads took the July 2014 exam.

There may be several reasons for the decline, but an overall drop in the number of students enrolling in law school appears to be the most significant factor.

Those students who did sit for the exam can expect to find out whether they were successful by the middle of November at the latest.

This coming February will mark the very last time New York offers the “New York” bar exam, as the state will be switching to the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) already given in 15 other U.S. jurisdictions, in July 2016.
