A School Invites Bob Freaking McCulloch, But It's A Black Man Who Is In Trouble
Black man gets pissed off at classmates who enjoyed Bob McCulloch at Missouri Law. Hilarity ensues.
The University of Missouri School of Law invited the disgraceful Bob McCulloch to speak on campus. Because that’s pretty much what you do if you are a law school that doesn’t give a damn about you minority students. Giving that jackass a forum to talk about how he helped police officers evade prosecution — under the guise of an academic discussion — is ridiculous. But hey, people who think that black views, feelings, and lives don’t matter are particularly emboldened in Missouri nowadays.
In any event, hilarity ensued. No cigarillos were harmed, but Missouri made the curious decision to prevent media access to the talk. During the event, the president of Missouri’s Student Bar Association was tweeting. The SBA president this year happens to be black. That becomes important because of this tweet:
Look man, I hate white people too. But I get to say that because I’m not running for anything. You are in a leadership position. You can’t tell your constituents that you dislike representing over half of them. Even Mitt Romney couldn’t get away with telling 47% of the country that he doesn’t like them. I can only imagine how annoyed I would have been watching some of my white classmates sit in rapt attention as a bad man justified his role in the slaying of a black teen. But, I’ve chosen to live my life in a way where I’m not required to hide my feelings. In fact, I’ve even found a way to get paid for them. You chose to run for something. You chose to lead. You’ve given up your right to say “real” stuff on Twitter.

Predictably, the SBA guy’s tweets were reposted beyond his Twitter feed, and some white students at Missouri Law twisted their panties into an incredible bunch. I’ll highlight some of the most-hurt butts:
* “Am I the only one that thinks referring to only the ‘white faces’ would be a faux pas for anyone else?”
* “No one is holding [the SBA guy] to an unfair standard. Is it so much to ask that our SBA President WANT to represent us?? I don’t think so. He admitted that he is “upset” about having to represent us. THAT is the problem.”
* “[The President] made a personal attack on every white person and every member of the student body that was at that event.”
Chill out, white faces. The SBA president was not threatening you. He is unarmed. Please do not shoot him (even though Bob McCulloch probably wouldn’t prosecute you if you did).
Not every black leader can be Barack Obama: by which I mean that not every black leader can be so calm and reasonable sounding when confronted by the institutional racism of Ferguson, Missouri. Racism is learned, dealing with racism also has to be learned, and dealing with white people who ignore or discount institutional racism requires a Ph.D. in tolerance. At least this guy knows he’s supposed to lead all the students, not just the ones that look like him or agree with him. A lot of white leaders don’t even pretend like they are supposed to care about the black community.

I’m sorry if some white people at Missouri Law felt like their student body leader didn’t want to represent them. But maybe now you have a little bit of a taste of what it’s like to be black and have to rely on a person like Bob McCulloch for “justice.”
