White & Case Has Built The New ‘Modern’ Law Firm Office — And It’s Awesome

Above the front desk of the conference floor rises an open-air atrium:

Yes, that’s a full coffee shop at the end of that hallway, and it’s amazing. The goodie selection is on par with the best commercial locations.

And, yes, there’s a bar.

Tucked behind the cafeteria, the area allows groups to close themselves off and meet and eat as a group. And it’s only got a touch of that Shining feel. “All work and no play makes… well, an associate.”

The firm’s gym, named The Summit — even if the naming competition would have named it Boaty McBoatface — is fantastic for an on-premises facility.

That’s just the spin room, where White & Case can take onsite classes. There’s also a full room of equipment next door, and the firm has physical therapy specialists for folks who need it. How complete is this gym?

I guarantee you that’s never been touched.

Finally, the firm does maintain a small library, even if the area is now mostly for hiding from the world. But it’s also home to this:

That’s George Case’s desk. The story of the desk is almost too hard to believe. Case gave the old desk to his secretary, and it was then passed down through the family and landed in the possession of a woman who… works at White & Case. When she pointed out that she had the desk, the firm jumped at the chance to bring it home to the office.

It’s a fitting anchor to the past in this brand-new facility.
