Biglaw Bonus Bonanza -- With Extra Cash For Big Billers
The January bonus announcements just keep on coming.
There are two main schools of thought when it comes to Biglaw bonuses. The first, led by Cravath, announced their bonus scale early and paid their associates for their hard work in 2018 before the calendar rolled over to 2019. The other group waits to squeeze all the billable hours out of 2018 to announce their bonuses — even though, for most of the firms, there’s little doubt they’ll match the industry standard set in November.
Vinson & Elkins falls into the latter category. But the good news for associates is that the firm announced bonuses this week, and they are indeed matching the market scale:

In addition, associates who had an extraordinary year had an opportunity to earn between 1.10 and 1.35 times the first level bonus.
