The 2023 U.S. News Law School Rankings Are Here

A big change in the T14 and some of the largest rankings tumbles and gains.

With that out of the way, let’s take a peek at the law schools outside of the Top 50, i.e., the law schools that make up the rest of the Top 100, starting with Nos. 51 through 73. This section of the rankings was especially erratic, with one tie, two three-way ties, two five-way ties, and one six-way tie. Here we saw three schools rise like phoenixes with a double-digit gains.

Way to go, Wayne State (+14; this is the second year in a row the school has posted a double-digit gain), Kentucky (+14), and San Diego (+22)! Congratulations also go out to American, with an eight-spot gain. Well done! As for the biggest drops in this segment of the rankings, we’ve got Pepperdine (-6), Northeastern (-6), Missouri (-7), UNLV (-7), and Temple (-10). Plus, that one-spot drop was enough for UC Hastings to get booted from the Top 50. Ooof.

Moving right along, let’s check out the schools that make up the bottom of the Top 98. This segment of the rankings is the most volatile yet, with two ties, three three-way ties, one four-way tie, one five-way tie, and one six-way tie.

Ooooooooooooklahoma, where the law school’s dropping like a rock. This 21-spot dip is the most offensive drop in rank thus far in the 2023 rankings. (Brooklyn, we’re looking at you with a raised brow with that 17-spot drop.)
