Future Biglaw Associate Gives Birth On Law School Graduation Day
What a memorable way to “graduate” from law school. Congratulations!

What could possibly be more exciting than graduating from law school knowing that you’re about to embark upon a career at a law firm with a starting salary of $180,000? Giving birth to your first child during your law school graduation.
Meet Margaret “Maggie” Webber, a recent graduate of the University of Houston Law Center. She was supposed to walk across the stage to receive her law degree on May 13, but instead, she went into labor. “I love the timing, I wouldn’t have changed a thing,” she said. Here’s more from the Houston Chronicle:

Webber said she took most of her tough classes early in her law school education so classes were lighter during her pregnancy. …
When asked if [her son] Beau will retain some of the lectures, Webber laughs, “I sure hope so. I just hope he doesn’t argue with me too much when he’s older.” …
“It was a great experience. The administration was really helpful,” Webber said of going to school while pregnant. “People do hard things every day. Being pregnant and going to law school is hard, but there are harder things.”
Webber plans to take the Texas bar exam in July, and will begin working at the Houston office of Vinson & Elkins this fall. Luckily, the firm — named on Yale Law Women’s Top Ten Family Friendly list — offers flexible working arrangements, a new parent mentoring program, and subsidized child care.
