Do The Work

Hear The Best Pitch For Moving To Plaintiffs’ Side Work

Plus: why your law firms needs to get on board with feminist t-shirt Friday.

When starting your legal career, a lot of times people pick the path they think they should follow, rather than the one they want to follow. As you may imagine, this can lead to all sorts of dissatisfaction as young lawyers then try to figure out what career path will make them happy. The lesson that you can only do what you want to do is one that often takes years (and several lateral moves) to figure out.

In the latest episode of The Jabot podcast, I talk with Kate Baxter-Kauf, an associate at Lockridge Grindal Nauen, practicing in the firm’s data breach litigation practice group. Kate and I discuss why she chose plaintiffs’ side work over a career in Biglaw, what it’s like to navigate law school with an infant, and why law firms should get on board with feminist t-shirt Fridays.

The Jabot podcast is an offshoot of the Above the Law brand focused on the challenges women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations face in the legal industry. Our name comes from none other than the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the jabot (decorative collar) she wears when delivering dissents from the bench. It’s a reminder that even when we aren’t winning, we’re still a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Happy listening!
