Fall Recruiting Open Thread: Vault 71 - 80 (2010)

We continue our slog push through the nation’s 100 top law firms, as ranked by our friends over at Vault. Here are the next ten firms, to be discussed in the comments to this post:

71. Reed Smith
72. Bryan Cave
73. Perkins Coie
74. Hunton & Williams
75. Patton Boggs
76. Arent Fox
77. Schulte Roth & Zabel
78. Howrey
79. Chadbourne & Parke
80. Crowell & Moring

Assorted observations about these firms, after the jump.

The #71 firm, Reed Smith, has moved up three spots from last year. How high will the firm rank when the Fordham Law five-year ban on Reed Smith recruiting expires?
Bryan Cave, at #72, has moved up five spots from last year. The past year hasn’t brought the happiest news for Bryan Cave — there have been pay cuts and layoffs, among other things — but perhaps Bryan Cave is doing better than its peer firms, leading to the rankings rise.
Chadbourne & Parke fell four spots this year. That’s not too bad, considering that the firm was one of the first firms to cut salaries. Chadbourne made salary cuts way back in April.
We’re noticing that, at this point in the rankings, our coverage of individual firms is starting to run thin (with some exceptions — e.g., Howrey, which has been an innovator in rethinking associate training and compensation). When we look at our archives, we see that some of these firms have just a handful of posts written about them.
So what has been taking place at these firms that we’ve been missing? Fill us in, via the comments.
