The Eyes of the Law: Harriet Miers Gets Sworn In

Our latest Eyes of the Law celebrity sighting involves a household name: former White House counsel and Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. She may not have succeeded in getting on to the SCOTUS, but apparently she has joined another D.C. institution. We received this tip from a reader yesterday:

FWIW…. Just got sworn into the D.D.C. federal bar this morning. None other than Harriet Miers was also there getting sworn in. There were about 30 of us total. Pretty weird!

First things first: what was she wearing?

From what I recall, she was wearing a pinstripe pantsuit and had on pretty bright red lipstick. Sorry, if I had thought of writing you at the time, I would’ve paid more attention.

Wait — is our tipster certain that this was Harriet Miers? Perhaps he was in the presence of another sixty-something woman with problematic make-up?
Nope, it really was La Miers :

Definitely her. I saw her, and could swear it was her. Then they had a roll call and named her. She stood up and said “here.”

“Here”? That sounds a bit sober, not in keeping with the bubbly tone of her blog.
So was Harriet Miers mobbed by autograph seekers at the event?

There was a small reception afterward — it did not appear anybody was really crowding around to talk to her. She was with a man (early 30s?) who also got sworn in. I assumed he was with her firm.

Probably; Miers doesn’t strike us as a cougar. She once dated Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht, but he’s only four years her junior.
We emailed Harriet Miers for comment — she’s back at Locke Lord, where she was managing partner (of a pre-merger Locke Liddell) before her White House service — but we haven’t heard back.
Congratulations on your latest bar admission, Ms. Miers!
