Former Dewey & LeBoeuf Partner Kisses and Tells(About D&L, Not His Alleged Affair With a Russian Spy)

A former Dewey & LeBoeuf partner kisses and tells -- about his time at the firm, not his alleged affair with a sexy Russian spy.

As we mentioned in Morning Docket, over the weekend the New York Post wrote about John Altorelli’s alleged romantic relationship with the famous Russian spy, Anna Chapman. Per the Post:

Before she was arrested and deported, Russian spy Anna Chapman was living with powerhouse New York lawyer John Altorelli, who told friends she gave him the “best sex” he ever had.

That shouldn’t come as a shock. Biglaw partners sure know how to screw people.

According to sources, the legal eagle and the sexy spy shacked up in his West 37th Street apartment. He threw a party there with Chapman in June 2010, just before her arrest, where he introduced her to friends as “the woman in his life.” Altorelli also boasted to pals that Chapman was very adventurous in bed.

It’s unclear when the relationship began, but sources tell Page Six that Altorelli caught Chapman’s eye after he separated from his wife and shed a lot of weight. They add that he showered Chapman with gifts, including clothes and jewels, and they cohabitated in his huge Hell’s Kitchen apartment.

Many lawyers at large firms complain that they just meet other lawyers, but certain partners know how to expand their social circles. Altorelli somehow hooked up with Chapman, just as Ira Schacter of Cadwalader connected with former Playboy model Lace Rose Allenius (a former girlfriend of actor Matt Dillon).

Was Altorelli aware of Anna Chapman’s secret life? Apparently not, according to Page Six:

Altorelli was not suspected of knowing about Chapman’s secret life as a spy. Sources say that when Chapman first got into hot water with the law, she told him she was “having problems with her visa.”

Does John Altorelli have a thing for damsels in distress? Perhaps. Law firms in distress don’t have the same allure — otherwise Altorelli would still be at Dewey.

What did Altorelli have to say about his reported relationship with Anna Chapman? “I know why you are calling,” he told the Post. “No comment.”

Some Dewey partners probably wish he had shown similar gentlemanly discretion with respect to his former firm.
