Above the Law starts a journey to crown the best law school bar in New York City.

Here’s what we’re going to do, and it’s going to be glorious.

On Thursday, September 19th, your Above the Law editors will set off on a night-long mission to crown the best law school bar in New York City. We will visit five bars, one near each of the five major law schools on Manhattan island, and we’ll blog about them. Later, readers will vote on the winner. If you don’t live in Manhattan, don’t worry, if this works we’ll be coming to a city near you soon enough. And if you live in a city that is too boring to host a full-on bar crawl, you should be able to follow along as we live blog and tweet about the evening as it progresses.

Save the date: Thursday, September 19th, 2013.

Kaplan Bar Review will be sponsoring this crawl, because nothing says “Jesus, I really need to study for the bar” than hanging out with ATL editors for an entire evening. Kaplan will also be providing a free drink to the first 25 people who meet us at each of the locations. And they’ll be giving out some other swag.

I’ll pause now for applause and praise.

But wait, there’s more. Did I mention the “party bus” that will be taking us — and maybe you — around the city? Here’s what we need from you…

Our plan right now is to start around Columbia during happy hour and end downtown near NYU (and it’s sister campus NYLS) for late-night festivities.

Since that’s a whole lot of drinking and a big team of ATL and Kaplan people, we will be traveling around Manhattan in a limo. Well, a bus. A party bus. With booze on it. There should be a limited amount of seats available for people who want to travel with our crew. I don’t know how we’ll apportion those seats… I’m married so it probably won’t be up to me, but it might involve beads.

We need you guys to tell us which bars we are going to. Please send this post to your friends at Columbia, Fordham, Cardozo, NYU, and NYLS, and have them send bar nominations to tips@abovethelaw.com Subject: Bar Crawl. Please only nominate cool places. We’ll look at the nominations, and come up with an itinerary once we find places that can accommodate our space needs and make some kind of reasonable route for our bus driver.

Also, NYU students, you might also want to nominate a hospital because now that St. Vincent’s is closed I don’t know where I’m supposed to go, you know, after when I need fluids and stuff.

I don’t know how this could be more awesome, but if you think of something let me know. Again, Thursday, September 19th. Law firms, if you want to lay off 100 people without anybody noticing, Friday, September 20th might be a good day to do it.
