KIRKLAND & ELLIS — TYPHOON HAIYAN RELIEF EFFORTS

In response to many inquiries by Kirkland’s attorneys and staff, the Kirkland & Ellis Foundation will create a matching fund to help the people of the Philippines. The Foundation will match contributions made by Kirkland partners and employees up to an aggregate of $100,000. In recognition of this unique need, the usual minimum to qualify for matching has been waived and donations will not count toward annual matching limits.

Partner and employee contributions, together with the Foundation’s matching amount, will go to the American Red Cross International Services – Philippines Typhoon Appeal. Since its founding in 1881, the American Red Cross has been one of the world’s premier emergency response organizations. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. In the Philippines, the American Red Cross deployed two disaster relief specialist teams on Saturday to assist in the assessment of needed relief efforts. Since communication is still very limited in the hardest hit communities, the American Red Cross has also sent two telecommunication specialist teams and a satellite system. The Red Cross has activated its family tracing services to help people locate missing family members. But the biggest need is for the Red Cross to raise donated dollars to fund the provision of shelter, clothing and food for the victims. To learn more about the Red Cross, please visit www.redcross.org.

To contribute, send a check by November 25, 2013 to the donation coordinator in your office: [redacted]. The check should be made payable to the “Kirkland & Ellis Foundation” (with a notation that it is for “Philippines Typhoon Relief”).

WOODRUFF JOHNSON & PALERMO — TYPHOON HAIYAN RELIEF DRIVE

Friends,

As we all know, on November 8th, the Philippines was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The death toll continues to rise and is estimated to exceed 2,500.Typhoon Haiyan has affected 6.9 million people and destroyed 149,000 houses and buildings. Disaster relief efforts, while ongoing, have been hampered by the decimation of the public infrastructure throughout the Philippines. Survivors in the hardest hit areas are without food, water and shelter. To say the least, this is a tragedy of epic proportions.

On behalf of the people at Woodruff Johnson & Palermo, I offer our deepest condolences to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and their families. As a member of the Filipino community I have firsthand knowledge of the spirit and resiliency of the Filipino people. I have no doubt that they will overcome this tragedy, but they need the world’s help.
