Pick-Up Artist Gets Hilariously Scathing Legal Rebuke

Familiar formula. Jackhole says incredibly offensive stuff under the blanket of the First Amendment. Someone publicly calls him out. He unironically tries to censor his critics. And a lot of times, this works because a threatening letter from a lawyer can intimidate many critics into silence.

But, that’s not the story this time. This time, a pick-up artist under fire for telling clients to run around Tokyo groping women (because apparently Japanese women are into that?) sent a takedown demand and ran into a buzzsaw of a response. The response can be summed up with this line: “Julien Blanc may bully Japanese girls, but he will not bully our client.”

There’s also a lot of talk about magic white penises and a bounty placed on beating Blanc to a pulp….

If you’re unfamiliar with Julien Blanc, he’s a so-called “dating coach.” Contrary to what you might think, Blanc doesn’t walk clients through choosing the right restaurant and wine pairing, or anything like that. No, these dating coaches charge a hefty fee to run seminars telling men how to pick up desperate women for one-night stands through the magic of treating them like garbage. Which in the end is the real point of these seminars: telling guys who hate women that hating women will get them laid is a good way to make money.

In a videotaped talk, he explained to a group of white dudes that in Tokyo, their status as white men allows them to randomly harass women on the street, up to and including grabbing a woman’s head and forcing it into the white man’s crotch. Here’s Blanc explaining:

As it turns out, not everyone agrees with his assessment of Japanese culture or basic human decency. Activist Jenn Li posted the video at the Independent, and criticism of Blanc mounted as the above video started making the rounds.

So Blanc sent a takedown notice to 8chan for user-generated posts critical of him. This was a poor decision, because 8chan is represented by Marc Randazza (disclosure: Randazza represents ATL in certain matters). In a blistering letter sent Saturday, Randazza ripped Blanc’s takedown notice a new one:

Lets go back to page one. Your client is the guy who seems to advocate sexual assault against random women, on the basis that he’s Caucasian, and they’re not. Neither [co-counsel] Mike [Cernovich], nor I, are in any danger of winning the “Male Feminist of the Year Award.” But Jesus Hello Kitty Christ on a Rocket-Powered Toboggan, are you FREAKIN’ SERIOUS?

If you have the audacity to file a defamation claim on behalf of a guy who advocates sexual assault, and relies on racist bunk to justify it, then come at us, bro. Our client might just waive his CDA immunity and let the case stand on the merits of the defamation claim. I can not express how much joy I would find in watching you try and articulate how your client’s reputation has been harmed by anything other than his own asinine, racist, sexist, rapey-creep-scumbag statements.

Indeed, no one will accuse either of being Feminists of the Year. Cernovich has called feminism “truly ugly” (because, you know, atheists!), and Randazza admits in the letter that he usually makes fun of the terms “white privilege” and “male privilege” (because discrimination isn’t a pattern, it’s just a few bad apples!). It’s truly a testament to Blanc’s video that he could get these guys to not just deny his takedown demand — which Randazza addresses by citing Section 230 — but put a bounty on him.

I would imagine that there may be different social mores in Tokyo, but I bet that royal ass kickings do happen there. I would like to offer a bounty of $5,000 to anyone in Tokyo who beats the bejesus of your client, as long as the ass whuppery results in his hospitalization, and it is in response to him assaulting a Japanese woman (double the pledge if it is the woman herself who puts him in the hospital). This may seem extreme, or even cruel. But, Mr. Blanc could use his magic white guy power to heal himself, and then turn into Mazinga, and then blast the assailant to kingdom come. Mazinga is wicked bad ass, and he can totally fuck shit up.

Is there a full-page picture of Mazinga enclosed with the letter? Absolutely.

In conclusion, Randazza offers his hope for the future.

And, with any luck, he’ll try and bully the wrong Japanese girl. We hope that when he does, the event gets captured on video.
