Before the Twittersphere erupted in a hail of right-wing jeering about Obama’s loony interpretation of the Second Amendment, it would’ve been worth pausing to remember that no less a conservative than Chief Justice Warren Burger branded the NRA’s “laissez-faire Second Amendment” theory “one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word ‘fraud,’ on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”

But Burger only taught contracts, so what did he know?
